Pop ups will always be cool.

I don’t really like them...

This is your first warning.

It depends on how pointlessly nostalgic you are. I don’t like them because I’m able to understand the reason why I have such fond memories of Mega Man 2 was because I played it during summer vacation and not because of the game itself.

Mega Man 2 was a good game

I guess I like ‘em..
Technology-wise, they were mostly a stop-gap when aerodynamics were important, but laws didn’t allow anything but sealed beams. I am, however, glad that we’re passed that time.

They were a stupid/pointless/unreliable workaround to the incompetence of governments in making/maintaining regulations in action.

Until they fail to open at night when its pouring down rain and you have to crank one open manually while in a business suit heading to an event.

Former popup headlight owner here. They’re cool until they don’t work anymore and the company stops making parts to keep them that way.
They’re cool in a picture or a video, but a half-assed design behind them and a $500 repair bill (if you can get them repaired) sucks ass.

I’m genuinely torn; I keep going back and forth between yes and no.
Part of me believes that they were simply never a good idea in the first place. It’s such an overly complicated solution, just to avoid incorporating them into the design of the body better. Then again, it’s neat to be able to design a body without having to account for headlamp placement. Some cars look really good with them closed.

I had an AW11 MR2 and NA Miata so of course I think they’re cool...
That said, they worked at that time design-wise and it’s hard to have it any other way for those cars (NA Miata non-popup headlight conversion looks like trash) but realistically, I don’t think losing popup headlights has hindered car design at all. So something like that Vette you posted I think just looks silly.
I accept them as a relic of the past and I think they were a neat feature reminiscent of automobile design trends through the ages, but am not too sad to have seen them go extinct.

YES.
though I wouldn’t add them as you loose your drl and in a low car thats a bad idea.

I don’t know how long my pop up motors are going to last but my headlights are contained in real glass and they are as pristine as the day they were first made (car is 25 years old.)

I love the popups on my MR2
